Desert Restoration Demonstration Project
BEFORE:
- Compacted bentonite dirt
- High level of erosion across the site
- Barren ground with dead trees and trees, lacking perennial and ground cover layers
- Hot and reflective, no pollinator species present
AFTER:
- Porous soil with naturally accumulated organic mulch layer
- Erosion halted completely
- Plant cover over entire area with native species of perennials, forbs, ground covers, shrubs, and grasses
- Cooler temperature, pollinating dragonflies, bees, hoverflies, and butterflies abundant
Urban Backyard Design+Build
BEFORE:
- Pea gravel
- No organization or places for belongings and equipment
- Hot, sunny, exposed area
- Little plant cover or usable yard space
AFTER:
- Permeable paths recharge ground water
- Native and pollinator-friendly perennial beds
- Flowering vines and other plants emit pleasing scents
- Redwood deck with pergola for shady outdoor dining
